Single Gas Heaters

There are options for heating rooms with a small gas heater, even if you aren’t hooked up to city natural gas, or if you already have a different type of central heating system.

If you are wanting to install a single heater in a room, perhaps one that you just added onto your home, or maybe even your garage or other work area that is not heated by your regular central heating, there are definite advantages to considering a single gas heating unit.

These single units are generally much cheaper to run than a similar sized electric heater, and they are odourless, give off a great cosy and steady warmth to a room, and they look great too!  Popular single gas heating units include the smaller wall units, or more commonly the gas fireplace.

In fact, even if you already have a gas central heating system, you may still want to just install a separate single unit as chances are that your current system is the right size for your current house and adding on a new unit may just be too much for your system. If you’re not sure, get someone to come and check that before you go ahead and hook up another unit.

The Gas Heater

Almost any heater can be run off gas, from the bigger home central heating systems to the smaller wall or space heaters. You can even have your entire water heating system heated by gas, which is often a big saving over heating your water with an electric heating system.

But economy is not the only reason many people install gas heaters.  They are quick to heat up and they generally give off a nice, warm, consistent heat which makes the room very comfortable. Of course, it’s easy to regulate the temperatures too, if things get too ‘cosy’.  They are very quiet to run, just as noiseless as electric heaters, and providing they are installed properly there are no unusual odors or smells.

The big advantage of gas heating is if the electricity goes off you will still have heating, and your home will remain warm.

Another popular reason for going the gas heating route is that they are supposedly more environmentally friendly than many other types of heating, and do less damage to the atmosphere or our earth.

Having said all of that, I still say that I prefer the good old wood heater, or combustion stove, and warm cosy kitchen with the smell of food cooking away on top of the stove, though living in the middle of a big city it is unlikely that I will be able to fulfil my dream of owning a home with one any time soon!  In the meantime, it’s gas for me.

Faux Wood Blinds

Faux wood, or composite wood blinds are a great substitution for hanging real wooden blinds.  For many people, cost is an important factor to consider when hanging blinds, especially if you have a lot of windows to cover.

Faux wood blinds are generally considerably cheaper than investing in real hard-wood blinds, and most people can’t really tell the difference between them; at least not with a casual glance.  They are also better able to handle dampness than real wood blinds, thus making them perfect for hanging in damp or steamy locations such as in your kitchen or in bathrooms.

One con with faux wood blinds, however, that many people don’t realize initially is that they are often much heavier and more weighty than their wood counterparts. This isn’t a problem if the blinds are going to just hang there, and you’re only planning on opening and closing louvers for example. But if you are planning on actually pulling the blinds all the way up or down at any time, and your window is large, you may find that faux blinds are too heavy for this type of treatment.

If is very easy to find faux blinds online in all type of different blind styles. There are faux wood venetian, vertical, and plantation shutters readily available for ordering.  The great thing about ordering blinds on line is that you can really shop around and find the best prices from a multitude of shops.  If you are buying on line, keep an eye out too for shops that offer free shipping, as that can cut your costs considerably. And, make sure that either you or someone you know, can help you install your faux wood blinds when they arrive!
